May the 4th be with you – George Lucas’ patents

#Maythe4thbewithyou!

Even Anakin thought of protecting the C3PO robot design when he filed a design patent for USD 251,627. Why the US? For one thing, we don’t know how intellectual property protection worked a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, or how the Imperial Galactic Industrial Property Office (if there is one) is doing.

The war against the Rebels or the Empire (depending on which side you’re on) is fought not only with laser swords, death stars and space ships, but can also be fought in the legal arena with intellectual property – limiting competition with your own patents, trademarks and industrial designs. The other option, on the other hand, is to make some effort to cancel these documents in order to weaken your rival a little.

But equally, your competitors’ industrial property can get you in trouble if you don’t actively protect it.

Industrial property protection is there for you, whether you are on the side of the Rebellion or the Empire, the Jedi Knights, or lean more towards the dark side of the Force.
